Mod Spotlight: EHX Small Clone – Depth Control & Chorus/Vibrato Switch
Just wrapped up a super fun project modding and repairing an Electro-Harmonix Small Clone—a classic analog chorus pedal known for its lush, swirling tones. This one came in a little beat up and a little limited, but now it's rocking some serious new features.
What I Did
This Small Clone now has:
A dedicated depth knob – Replacing the stock two-way switch, this allows for way more precise control over the modulation intensity. Whether you want a subtle shimmer or deep, warbly movement, it’s all on tap.
Chorus/Vibrato mode toggle – This mod gives you the option to bypass the dry signal and run full wet, essentially turning the Small Clone into a true vibrato pedal. Flip back for classic chorus—it’s like getting two pedals in one.
These mods really open up the versatility of the Small Clone while retaining its iconic analog warmth.
Why Mod a Pedal Like This?
Sometimes it’s not about fixing what’s broken—it’s about unlocking what’s possible. The Small Clone is a killer pedal as-is, but with a few thoughtful upgrades, it becomes a real studio or stage workhorse. If you’ve got a pedal you love that’s not quite doing everything you want, a custom mod might be the perfect solution.
